Copenhagen, January

Nice Day

Hi,

Thinking of booking a surprise trip to Copenhagen, 2nd Jan for a break with the GF..
Is it very expensive.. Food, beers etc..
Any recommendations as to what area and hotel to stay at.. 3-4 star?

Flights are pretty cheap with Aer Lingus..
Is the airport near city?

Was a toss up between Copenhagen and Edinburgh.. Never been to either.. Suggestions??

Thanks and Happy Christmas to ya all!!

I've been to both and loved both. We stayed in a Radisson in Copenhagen, there are 2, can't remember which one it was. Public areas were nice, rooms tiny and dated.

Copenhagen is beautiful and SO clean but it's the most expensive place I've ever been and we travel lots. Lunch in a little cafe (2 cokes, fish & chips, a club sandwich and a coffe) €65! Taxis are very pricey too. We didn't eat in touristy places but even so I was amazed at how expensive it was. Our Danish friends are the only people who visit us who think Dublin is cheap.

Edinburgh is a lovely city. Can highly recommend the Radisson there. The city has great bars and restaurants, had an amazing Thai meal there, wow.

Given the choice I'd prefer Edinburgh. Marginally!

That says enough!!!!!!!

Edinburgh it is so!!!!!!

Cheers!!!

Just back from Copenhagen and was there also in January. It is SOOOO expensive that it kinda takes the good out of being away on a break! €10 a drink in a hotel or a central bar....Waaayyy to expensive..It is a beautiful city and very pretty when it snows but the prices are just nuts!

Yes, Copenhagen is expensive.

This tourist card will help reduce costs:

The main airport is very handy, I think just 17 mins by train from the centre.

Very nice city.

I was in Copenhagen last year for a long weekend. Yes, it is expensive but i'm at a loss as to where you lot were eating and drinking! Those are not the sort of numbers that i was coming up with. Even in "The Dubliner" (i had to) i dont recall the pint being any more than 6e or so. Yes, thats expensive but its alright for a weekend. Down in Nyhavn i was in a load of the pubs on the strip and even there wasnt crazy prices. Had a beautiful meal in the Tivoli gardens and that was a little pricy but it was a posh restaurant with all the fancy food and service etc.
I'm not for a moment suggesting its a cheap place, but it has me confused as to where you lot were and what you were doing. Even doing the boat tour where you can buy a beer onboard was not THAT expensive. If you were going for 2 weeks then yes, it would cost you but imagine spending 2 weeks in dublin how much you'd spend.

Never been to Copenhagen but Edinburgh is a great city - a must-see really given that it's so close and relatively cheap. The old town especially is great to walk/eat/drink/shop/browse in and the city as a whole is quite compact and easy to navigate. I've been there 4 times and would still go back.

That's because nobody wants to go there! Seriously, Copenhagen is clean, but has almost no character.

Any hotel i stayed in had 24 hour porn on the room TV for free. Who needs it? Grow up!

Can't stand the place.

Edinburgh is nice, but it'll be bloody cold so wrap up well, and treat yourselves to a 4 or 5 star hotel.
