Conveyancing - enforcement notice

We purchased our first house 4 years ago and paid a solicitor €4k to oversee the puchase. The house was a new built house and an architect supplied a certificate of compliance for the property, to the solicitor. There was however an enforcement notice on the property at the time for non compliance with planning. This did not come to light until 2 months after we moved in. I was wondering if the solicitor should have discovered the enforcement notice during the purchase.

Any advice muchly appreciated.
