Converting .mov to .avi

I downloaded RAD video Tools to do the above. But still cannot open file using Windows Media Player. Do you know what I should do?
 
I think there are a few different types of avi files.. or rather a few different ways to encode the video into an avi file. So you will need to make sure that you have the encoder/decoder (or codec) installed on your computer that was used by RAD tools to create the avi.. I may be talking rubbish also! avi codecs is just something that I have had trouble with recently.

I've come across a DivX codec and also an XviD codec. Perhaps the avi produced by RAD tools will require one of these to be installed on your computer in order for successful playback..

Actually, I use a tool called "video inspector" which will open an avi file and tell you the name of the codec used to create the avi file and also if that codec is installed on your computer..

So perhaps this is a starting point to understanding a bit more..
