Is there a method for converting old 35mm photographic slides directly to digital images?

Markjbloggs,

Did you ever get your 35mm slides converted to digital? My uncle has several hundred Kodachrome slides which he would like to convert. From checking the web there seem to be 2 options: 1. Scan (various machines and attachments available) 2. Commercial photograper who could do the conversion.

Have you any ideas?

From what I can gather the second option would be the more expensive of the 2 and also you run the risk of loss/damage of some slides.

I have one of these on the way to scan some slides/negatives - I will give you an update later.

Proper film scanners are the way to go - dont use flatbed scanners with the film attachment, the quality is crap. Look around ebay or buy and sell for people selling their film scanners - I sold one a while ago for 100 euros. Cost me 600, but didn't use it anymore.

Hi Myate,

Thanks for your reply. I'm a complete novice regarding this transfer of images from 35mm to digital. Would something like this be what you have in mind?

If not, can you recommend a make/model and what exact specifications I should be looking out for?
