I would appreciate some quick advice on the key things to look for when obtaining contents insurance. Is it best to go with the online brokers or to call insurance companies directly. Any pointers much appreciated

I won't be biased because I work for a broker, I'm not in a position to say one company is better than another. I have found, however (before working for one!) that going through a broker is often cheaper than going direct.

If you would like to compare quotes, try calling companies direct:
Allianz: 1850 484848
AXA: 1850 211850 (customer care line)

Then give brokers a go for comparison.
