Contacts gone from iPhone

I just went to make a call and all of my contacts have disappeared from my phone (iPhone 3GS). Not upgrading, syncing etc. They were there one minute and gone the next.
I couldn't do a restore off iTunes as the software on my phone was out of date. When I upgraded it automatically did a backup which backed up my enty contacts folder.
Does anyone know if it is possible to find/restore an older backup of iTunes?
 

No idea about iTunes. Are your calls/texts made/received gone too? The other (painful ) option is to go through your previous bills and rebuild them manually.
 
If you use Google to search for 'iphone 365 Contacts missing', there are a lot of postings on other forums.

Sorry I'm on the move right now and can't check it... But yes the PC you are syncing With should have several old backups on it.

Yep, got it sorted. I left my laptop at home today and I hadn't done a back-up on my office PC. Just restored off iTunes on the laptop.
