Contact termination date clarification

Based on this contract line, when can the contract be terminated, 3 months from now or 31st Dec 2010 with written notice posted before October 1st 2009?

"This agreement shall remain in full force and effect for a period of 3 years starting January 1st, 2002 with automatic yearly renewal thereof until terminated by notice in writing by the party electing to terminate the agreement to the other party hereto 90 days prior to the elected date of termination."

Absent any definitions that might imply the contrary, I'd say 90 days from now. There's no mention of the notice of termination having to expire on an anniversary of the renewal date.
