Consultation announced on new property tax - get your views in

I agree it appears to be the Irish way but this time we have all been invited to make a direct input via the consultation paper. Isn't that a glimmer of hope? I've done so and to be honest the fairest solution for me seems to be a land tax instead of a property tax with of course complete accountability for local authority spending of the tax collected. If you feel strongly enough not to pay the €100 charge then give them €100 of your time making a constructive submission.

I got it here: http://www.environ.ie/en/LocalGovernment/LocalGovernmentAdministration/LocalGovernmentFinance/Inter-DepartmentalGrouponPropertyTax/ with an e mail address propertytax@environ.ie

Folks

This thread is about the consultation process. Please discuss the consultation process only in this thread.

If you want to discuss the charge itself, do so in one of the existing threads.

Folks

Could I just say that this thread is about the consultation and not about the tax per se. There are many other threads on the topic.

I would respectfully suggest that some of you should make submissions to the government on the topic.

Brendan

Hi Brendan,

In a nut shell - nothing definite.

I made a submission to the Inter-Departmental Group on property tax on 21/02/2012 and it was acknowledged by e-mail within 24 hours. I think the closing date for submissions was 16 March 2012.

It appears your name may be listed in the appendix to the report as having made a submission and also as their guidelines stated the submission may be published on the Departments web site. As of this afternoon, they don't know for definite that they will be made public and for this reason they can't give a date.

The report is to be given to Minister Hogan at the end of April. Even at this stage the details may not be published as it is only a report to the minister. From then on then the process will be subject to the Ministers decision based on the recommendations of the Inter-Departmental group.

What are the terms of reference of the group and what is the closing date for consultation process?

Is it closed?

Written submissions to the Group are invited from interested organisations and members of the public and should be sent before 16 March, 2012 to:
Property Tax,
Local Government Finance,
Department of the Environment, Community and Local Government,
Custom House,
Dublin 1.

Does any know where one can make a formal submission/ observation with respect to the proposed new 2013 Property Tax as of today 9th April 2013?

I find it strange that the government is already talking about who could be exempt from the tax, before the actual structure of the tax is decided/agreed upon.

Sounds like a case of putting the cart before the horse!!!!
