Condensation underneath Freezer

There is condensation dripping off the bottom of my Hotpoint Freezer. What would cause this ? Temp set too low perhaps ? The freezer is in the kitchen.

One possible reason is lack of ventilation while cooking. Lots of steam = high humidity in kitchen. When this hits the coldest spot (the freezer) it condenses.

Having said that, the freezer should be well insulated and therefore not cold on the outside. Is it an old freezer?

Yes, its about 17 years old now, I'm not sure if its worth getting a repair man out to look at - I'm guessing this would be 100 euro before parts ets..
Its very cold on the outside , bottom 6 inches, and the room temp. is obviously causing the condensation. I'm wondering why it would be so cold in this area ?

Time to get a new one. Your insulation has broken down. This would not have happened overnight.

What do you mean exactly when you say condensation underneath freezer? If you mean a pool of water could there possibly be a leak because the drip tray at the back of the fridge is blocked.

Some of the links/advice in this previous post might help.

I think a drip tray applies to a fridge, not a freezer..... I can peek underneath the freezer and see droplets of moisture clinging / dripping slowly , definitely condensation. I think its the insulation as previously suggested - the cold inside should not make contact with the room temp outside

Hi Dave,

You're right, it does apply to the fridge and not freezer. Looks like you'll have to hit the pocket.
