Computer wont recognize SDHC card

Is there any way for me to update my computer...because it appears as though currently the SDHC card is not compatible with my computer. What would I need to do in order for the two devices to sync up?its a 8gb card,its fine in my camera,but will not show up on my desktop.{xp}
 
Have you tried connecting the camera with the card in it to the PC via USB ?
 
yes i can see the card with the camera plugged in,but i was going to transfer files from my pc directly to the card to use in another device.
 
If you can see the card listed as another "drive" in My Computer you should be able to transfer files to it.
 
If your computer is quite old and has an integrated SD card clot, it will likely not read newer SDHC cards. Get one of these and you will be fine....
