My six year old son fell while out playing yesterday. He was brought in by his older brother and it emerged that he slipped on a wet patch caused by a neighbour washing their car. He sobbed and wailed while I peeled off his mucky clothes and washed the grit off his hands and knees. Washing the grazes elicited howls but then suddenly his face brightened and he looked at me and said: " I know. We should call that number from the television that you ring when you've had an accident that's not your fault."

Trying not to laugh, I asked him what would happen then. He said "you ring them and buy a lawyer". He was a bit hazy on the details after that and didn't seem to know about the cash settlement side of things but he was clued in as to the procedure! When I explained that people sometimes just fall over he seemed happy enough and bounced off.

He probably thinks you're very soft and he'll bring you round in time to his way of thinking. A millionaire in the making .......
