Hi,
Recently I was involved, in a very peripheral way, in an accident where, unfortunately, there was a fatality. I came upon the accident a few minutes after it had occurred and bumped into the van which had killed a motorcyclist. In his statement the van driver said I had in no way been a factor in the death of the motorcyclist and I literally only bumped into the van.
The Gardai initially told me that they wanted to do a forensic examination but that I would get my car back later that day. However subsequently they told me that the car would have to be held in case the DPP wanted to persue a prosecution. It was agreed by all that the case was an open and shut one and that my involvement was less than minor, however procedure had to be followed and they ended up keeping my car for about two months.
During this period I had to hire a car. I was wondering do any of ye out there know if I have any recourse to compensation for my expenses either from the Gardai or the DPP?
Thanks in advance for any replies.
