Company gone into liquidation where do we stand

I purchased a kitchen from a well known kitchen company and they have supplied most of it.
There are a number of problems with the kithchen which the owner of the company has assured us he will resolve.
However we have just discovered he has gone into liquidation.
Where do we stand now.
We owe him money for the kitchen but is isn't completed.

Not my area of expertise but anyway:

The liquidator will attempt to collect all outstanding monies - so he will send you a bill.
I'm not certain how much you'll have to pay however - you may have to pay for work done, or possibly you can get a third party to finish off the work and then deduct that amount from the overall contract price.

What is the nature of the problems with the kitchen?

Numerous problems, not getting the right wood for a start, painted a walnut colour instead of solid walnut, worktop on island bowed, no doors for dresser, some appliances missing, lighting attached to units but not connected, all connections for sink missing, just bowls no outlets, taps etc.
Some units damaged when being installed.

He agreed to rectify all problems but we have heard from his fitter that he is going out of business.

Don't let anyone near it without getting photos taken of the problems.

Get several quotes from people to finish the job off and to estimate the expected reduced value of the finished kitchen taking into account the different material supplied.

Use these in your defence against the bill from the liquidator, and frankly, I wouldn't be handing over another bob.

Does the value remaining to be paid come anywhere close to what you expect will cost to finish it?

TBH the promises to sort out the problems are pretty hollow I feel as the fitter told us the owner hasn't a hope of rectifying the problems.
At the moment we would be handing over cash for something we did not want.
The money we owe him would not sort out the problems to our satisfaction really.

You still add it all up and bill the liquidator for fixing it . this will :p be more than you owe them and they have no money.

The liquidator should write off your debt in full which is the best he can do.

If you paid by Credit Card and it wasn't delivered properly you may apply to the Credit Card company for a refund.

Have a look at this link. Gives good background as to why and how liquidators are appointed and the differences between voluntary wind ups and court wind ups and how creditors and debtors are treated in each case. You need to get in touch with the liquidator and ensure that your case is dealt with property during the process, as at the moment you probably appear as a debtor but not a creditor which you need to resolve.
