Commute times from north county dublin to CityWest

I have happily commuted to Dublin city centre by commuter train from North County Dublin (I live close to Balbriggan) for a number of years. However, due to my job relocating from the city centre to CityWest business park, I may need to change from public transport to driving.

I have no idea of the commute times involved never having faced the M50 before in rush hour. I have googled but I am finding it hard to get real facts on how long the journey will take to CityWest, and everyone I know who commutes doesn't take on this journey. Am I mad to consider it?

Can anyone fill in me on how long this might take in rush hour, and off-peak, and what delights may await on the journey, i.e. traffic bottlenecks.

Thank-you.

Delights that await you are:
- slow traffic/large volumes on M1 from Balbriggan to M50 junction
- massive volumes/very slow progress all the way down M50 from M1 through toll to Red Cow (time can vary from 30 mins to 90 mins)
- same in reverse on the way home

Try listening to 103.2fm in the mornings and evenings for traffic updates and travel times.

I wouldn't recommend that commute. Is there any way you can avoid it?
