Commercial Vehicles

Hi all,
What's the story with these? Couple of nice jeeps online that are commercial and way cheaper. But do you have to be registered for VAT to buy one? Am I right in saying that you can't have a back seat in one? Anything else I need to know about?
Thanks in advance.

Anyone can buy a commercial vehicle (van/truck/4x4). However, be careful - a lot of garages quote the price excl VAT (21.5%) as they assume that a person registered for VAT will purchase them and therefore be able to claim back the VAT. A few people have tried to get passenger 4x4s registered as commercial to avail of cheaper vehicle tax. I'm not sure how they do this - something to do with the unladen weight - BUT the Revenue have been made aware of this and apparently are inspecting such vehicles.

As Lorz says anyone can buy one, but be aware of the vat. No chance of seats in the back now as they won't pass the annual DOE, Like NCT for commercials but every year.
Some good deals to be had a the minute with private sales too.

Good luck
