Hi, I have just received word I have been successful in getting a new job up north, due to start 12th July, but I have a few questions to anyone who can help me out!

I am currently on Unemployment Benefit - was on Back To Education and now using my stamps.....am also claiming for my wife & two kids on this, she too was on uneployment but her stamps have now ran out so we were advised (by social welfare) rather than entering her own claim for Jobseekers allowance she would be quicker going onto mine.

My wife is also 7 & 1/2 months pregnant with child no.3, so don't think she would've been entitled to any maternity benefit here as no stamps left to claim on.

I know once we secure a rental property up north and have a correspondance address to use we can start the process with Child Tax Credits etc up there......but in the meantime we were just wondering if my wife is actually entitled to any kind of payment up there as soon as we move such as Jobseekers equivalant?

Also, am semi-aware of some type of entitlement to be paid to a person who leaves ROI whilst receiving welfare, who are then paid for up to 3 months or gaining employment before then? Am I right in assuming my wife would not be entitled to this as she has no stamps left to claim on?

Am very sorry for length of post, have confused myself now!

Thanks in advance.

What you are referring to is a transfer of jobseeker's benefit (up to 78 days) which would be payable if you were unemployed in NI. As you are getting work, this would not be oayable in your case.

Thanks Welfarite, I understand I wouldnt be entitled to the transfer as I am starting work, but I was wondering whether my wife would be entitled to sign on when we move...though she is pregnant and due end of august.

So apart from the working/child tax credits/child benefit we would apply for is there anything else she would be entitled to claim straight away?

I'm sorry, don't know what the ins and outs of claiming social security in NI are. Try [broken link removed] maybe?
