1.Any thoughts on whether a combi or condenser boiler is best.

2 Worchester Greenstar has been recommended by plumber, but Which Magazine, rates Potterton Gold C24HE, any thoughts on these also.

I would have thought a condensing combi would be best!

Combi's must have decent water pressure and no limescale.

A combi boiler is also a condensing boiler and you do need good consistant mains water pressure for combi. You are better with a normal condensing boiler.

Thanks for replies guys. Will stick to condensing models, any recommendations for boilers?

I saw a combi on the TV recently which incorporated a small solar panel on the roof, to heat the water in the cylinder so as reduced the energy used by the boiler in providing hot water.

We have a Glow worm Flexicom 18 sx condenser boiler which is efficient except for the coldest days of the year 2009 and 2010 when the outside pipe froze up with the expelled water from the boiler and shut it down until you go out with a kettle of water and thaw the pipe out. Last year as a temporary solution an interior drain pipe was fitted which we drained into a jug in the kitchen and emptied daily. This appears to be a very common problem if you search on aam. So if you get one make sure to discuss this first, the solutions we have now been offered are to have the pipe permanently inside and liked to the waste from the sink, or a thermal wire fitted to the tube to prevent freezing. So be warned!

This problem is usually because the pipe run is too long and has some non vertical runs, usually because of the position of the shore outside.

The 'expelled water' is in fact a mild acid so needs to be treated with care.
it is either/and sulphurous acid H20SO3 or Nitrous Acid H2N2O2
If the pipe outside is increased in bore , has good falls and lagged then it wont freeze
