college fund advice

I need some advice on the best place to deposit approx. 3k which we've accumulated by not touching the early child care supplements,and also accumulated childrens allowances.A friend recommended setting up a college fund for the kids?

Search out the many existing threads on saving for children's education. Maybe consider a low charges unit linked fund if you are talking about investing for 10+ years.
