Hi,

We have a single block, flat roofed extension on our house, which means it is very very cold. Actually, when measured it is 3 degrees colder than the rest of the house but feels worse.

We dont intend to stay in the house and dont want to spend alot of money but is there anything reasonable to do to prevent heat loss and stop the cold coming through? I dont know anything about DIY (but am learning!) so any help would be much appreciated!

Thanks,

Hi kcat

You don't say whether this extension is 4-inch single block (unlikely) or 9-inch cavity block? What is the room used for? How esposed is it? Any external opes?

Probably your quickest solution is to line the walls with something like Kingspan K17 which is an insulant board bonded to plasterboard. It's fixed using "dot-and-dab", in other words it's glued to the wall (assuming the existing finish is sound and dry). The product comes in 2.4x1.2 sheets (8x4 ft in old money) but you'll have a lot of fiddly work to accomodate switches, sockets, pipes, windows, doors etc.

Just how long are you expecting to stay? It might be much cheaper to buy/run some extra heaters.
