coast of italy

My 2 girlfriends and myself are heading to Italy the very end of May for 10days, going to Rome for a couple of days and have accomodation sorted for Rome but are not sure where to head for from there, we don't want to travel far from Rome, ie in or around 2-3hours by train but the Amalfi coast is appearing to be very expensive and given the location has very few hotels/apartments with pools and near a beech, we don't want to go somewhere very built up,touristy& expensive but do want somewhere that has a bit of a buz about it with reasonable accomodation. Any suggestions.

I was in Sorrento last year Septmeber, booked an appartment in Meta de Sorrento for a week, cost EUR680 all in. Appartment was excellent, in a very untouristy place, close (5 minute walk)to one of the only proper beaches in the area and right next to the train station. It was 10 miutes on the train into the nightlife of Sorrento, and about 35 minutes to Pompei. Website is . Think the appartment we were in was ref B204.
