I am thinking of moving to the Cloughjordan area. Does anyone know this area well? i would welcome some comments on whether it is an isolated area and is public transport available there?

There is a train service but it's very limited.
It's not on a Bus Eireann route-Roscrea is the closest town for that.
You do need a car to get around.

It's an extremly quiet town where very little ever happens.
When can be a good thing but if you are young and want lots of places to socialise, it's not the best.

Unofficaly known as "Mini Belfast" and if you move to the area any of locals can explain this one.

I've seen something about an eco village development. I don't know much about it so read up on this.

Hi Bridget,
I live on a farm just outside Cloughjordan, it is a small village, approx 180 inhabitants. It is quiet but expanding rapidly, about 40 - 50 houses have been built in the village in the past 2 years with more to come as the eco village has started.
Known unofically as mini Belfast because there is an unusually high proportion of Protestants here.
Public transport? 4 trains a day: 2 to Dublin approx 90 mins, 2 to Limerick which is 35 miles south. Dont know how long it takes because I've never taken it. Any other Questions feel free to ask,
Oh nearly forgot wireless broadband is available.

Thank you for you help. I am interested in the eco village and that's why i'm thinking of moving to cloughjordan. I don't know the area at all although i 'm from south tipp originally ; i left in 1972 and thought i'd never again want to live in the countryside, but now i long for it.
