Hi,

My elderly relative got this clothing allowance last year, €150 ( medical needs). Person is now permanently living in a nursing home, away from home area, in a different town/county. Should the application this year be made to the relevant social protection officer in the town where the nursing home is or the officer in the area the person used to live?

If the relative is now in the nursing home, any application for Supplementary Welfare Allowance should be made from that address rather than from the previous address.

Just to point out that there is no such thing as an adult clothing allowance (unlike the Back to School scheme for children). Each application for an Exceptional Needs Payment is decided on its own merits, depending on the person's circumstances and needs.

ok, thanks gipimann. I do remember there was a max €150 clothing allowance type payment based on medical needs, or rather they paid out the €150 through the SWA. It was fairly standard, my very elderly relatives got it annually, for medical reasons ( they had colostomies or drain tubes). A CWO friend of mine used to give it to prisoners too when they left the "Joy"!
