Hi all,

Have searched the site for an answer to this but i called my old cc company today to cancel the card and they informed me that I had to pay €40 govt duty on this card from April of this year that the fee I paid in april was arrears for last year. Is this correct?

Ok so I need to pay this... as I have switched to Halifax, will I also have to backpay that card with an initial €40 to April?

I think once you get aletter from previous company stating lyou have paid the €40 on the a/c that is now closed you will not be charged twice.

€40- fee is applied to your credit card up closure of account.

Once you have cleared the balance on the card you can request a government cert from your previous credit card company and if you send this to your new credit card company you wont be charged the stamp duty in the following year
