I have a one year fixed interest savings account with EBS due to renew in April 2013.
"The account does not allow me to make any withdrawals until maturity date."
Now am i right in thinking that i can still close account at any time and receive balance with the sole penalty of not receiving any interest accumulated ?

Breakage penalties vary from bank to bank.

Some banks, like Nationwide UK, have clear simple breakage penalties.

Some banks, officially speaking, do not allow breakage.

Some banks, have opaque or complex breakage fees.

With EBS, breakage fees vary from product to product. It looks like you have their Fixed Save product.

With Fixed Save, officially speaking, you are not allowed any withdrawals during the term. Speak to EBS, give your sob story and ask for an early exit. They might comply.
