classic car tax/insurance?

Hi guys
Im thinking of buying a car approx 25 years old , i was told that there is a special road tax rate for classic cars but im not sure how old the car must be .Also do i need an NCT cert and and are there any problems with insurance?

AFAIK, the special insurance details for classic cars depend on it being your second car, not your main car.

Nothing applies until the car is over 30.An nct is not required unless you intend using it for hire or reward ie a limousine then all the regulations will apply.The over 30 road tax is very cheap around €30 I think and the classic insurance policies can be restrictive.A lot of companies do offer "everyday insurance"which is slightly more expensive and they might ask for their engineer to inspect the car,
