Just a quick query can you claim medical expenses back from vhi and also on the med1 form. For example i receive €20 from Vhi everytime I pay to see the GP. Can I then claim for the remaining €40 on the med1 form?

Re: Claimind VHI or med1 form

You can claim the balance minus the yearly minimum deductions set by revenue.

Assuming the GP consultation fee in this case is €60 then the answer is yes.

Re: Claimind VHI or med1 form

thanks for that. can i claim for previous years or is it just the current tax year

Re: Claimind VHI or med1 form

You can backdate tax reclaims by a maximum of 4 tax years - i.e. in this tax year that means 2006, 2005, 2004 and 2003. Note that prior to this tax year an "excess" of €125 (single)/€250 (joint/family) applied to MED1/2 tax claims. This has been abolished from 2007.
