Got this query from a friend, and am unsure of answer.

They are being made redundant, at the end of January 2020, and they have already booked a round the world ticket, and depart the day after being made redundant.

So in short, they won’t be contacting SW about a JB claim until after they return in early May at the earliest.

Query is, does the max of 9 months Unemployment Benefit commence, when they return and register at their local SW office, or is that 3 month (or more) period forfeited, and they only get a max of 6 months after they return.

Technically, they are only available and seeking work from around May1st.

I did warn about the 3 month gap insurable weeks, but unsure of the timeline of how the UB would work in this situation.

If they got over €50,000 in redundancy they would be disqualified anyway for a period of between 1 week and 9 weeks depending on the lump sum. They will be entitled to the full 9 months once they apply.

The €50,000 or more only applies to those under age 55. You can lose up to 9 weeks if the amount is over €90,000.
