A friend of mine has been paying contributions into a pension scheme for the last 6 years. She is a PAYE worker but the pension is not through her employer, rather it is one that she arranged herself through BOI. She has never claimed any tax relief on these contibutions.

Can she claim tax back for the full 6 years worth of contributions and if so, how should she go about it?

Any advice appreciated.

She can claim back up to 4 years from 2002 (2002 to 2005 inclusive). She should contact BOI (i'm surprised they did not tell her of the importance of doing this at the time she took out the pension) and get a letter stating the amount of contributions paid each year. She should then contact revenue who will reissue a balancing statement of each year. Don't forget to reclaim the PRSI. When revenue have sorted out their part, contact PRSI.
