claiming tax back how is it calculated

hi im new to this site only found it now its very informative but i couldn find an answer to my question which is
i have recently become unemployed and i am in receipt of the dole, i have been working with the last 5 years and i claimed my tax back just recently and i received about 600 euro how did they calculate this i thought i would be getting a couple of grand lol, as i have paid roughly 150 euro paye tax every week with the last 5 years, am i entitled to anything more

so does that mean i can claim back tax credit very 4 weeks

I would think so, either until all the tax credits are used (probably end of the year) or until the tax paid has been repaid (which since you state you recently became unemployed possibly won't come first).

If you ring and ask the Revenue they are normally quite helpful and will hopefully give an idea of how long you are likely to be able to get refunds for.
