I am about to claim tax credits for last years bin charges, and have read an old post stating you can claim for previous years as well. I have receipts for last year, but unfortunately do not have anything going back further.
Can I say it has cost me same over the prevous years (and keep my head down), or is it expected that I would provide receipts before getting back tax paid. Do they come looking for proof of receipts, or how does this work.
You can backdate claims for tax relief by up to 4 years. You need receipts just in case they ever ask to review/audit your affairs. However if you can reasonably accurately estimate your expenditure for previous years then I'm sure that you can claim the relief.
