We have just purchased a property and will need to rent while we are doing renovation work. does anyone know if can we claim rent relief while also getting mortgage interest relief on our mortgage? thanks

I don't think so. You cannot claim owner occupier mortgage interest relief when you are not an owner occupier. Just curious - how are you renting it out while renovation work is going on? Or if tenants can live there while the renovations are ongoing why can't you?

OP is renting another house while renovating own home; they have two sets of outgoings, rent and mortgage - I think?

Sorry - misread the original post. However I don't think that you can claim owner occupier mortgage interest relief and private rented accommodation tax credit. I would imagine that it makes sense to just claim the former assuming that you can legitimately claim that the house undergoing renovation is actually your PPR and that renting is simply a necessity while this is happening?

Thank you - We will have to rent another property while we are renovating - will just claim mortgage relief which is definitely the bigger saver. thanks
