Claiming disability benefit

My sister has been out of work for many months over the last 12 months and she is entitled to disability benefit which she is only getting aropund to claiming now.

On top of that her finanial situation is not all that straight forward due to being involved in various mpanies and having a few properties.

She is pretty sure she has paid everything up in terms of tax over the years.
However - saying that, if she was to get audited she can't say for certain that the tax man would not want more cash off her.

She has certainly made every effort to keep her tax affairs in order. Nonetheless, obviously no-one wants to be audited (just so as to avod the stress of it alone !!)

So basically - my question is, is she possibly bringng attention to herself and her financial affairs by claiming disability beneft (She is entitled to this benefit).

As in - when someone applies for benefits they are entitled to, is it possible that the revenue will start looking at your overall situation just as typical pre-cautionarty duty tat it carries out.

Because pesonally i am thinking that perhaps this potential unwanted investigation she may have to undergo may not be worth it given that amount of disability she is entitled to claim.

I want to stress at this point it is highly unlikely that her tax affairs are not in order and sh has certainly at no point tried to deliberately mis-lead the revenue o any issue.

Remember her Illness benefit claim is a Social Welfare claim based on the PRSI she paid and has nothing to do with Revenue (seperate department)

A Social Welfare claim would not, of itself, give rise to a Revenue Audit.

However, if an audit arose at any time, if her affairs were in order as you state, then she should have nothing to fear.
