Claiming dental tax relief?

I recently had three fillings removed and replaced with new ones and was told I could claim tax relief on this. When I got the Med 2 form however, it clearly states fillings are not covered by dental tax relief. The dental nurse had mentioned something about the med2 form being misleading as it appears you can't claim relief when you can. So now I'm confused - can I claim dental tax relief for these fillings or not? They cost €300 and some kind of refund would be great...

Routine dental work such as fillings are not normally claimable. However the work you had done may not have just involved that. The dentist has to complete the MED2 and give it to you stating the heading under which the work was qualifying. If the dentist can supply you with the MED2 appropriately completed then you can claim relief. If the dentist cannot supply an appropriately completed MED2 then you have no claim.

I'll have to go back to him and check. He just gave me a form which he signed and verified at the bottom. He didn't write anything about the work that I had done and I didn't look at the form until I got home...

The dentist is supposed to tick the relevant box for type of work and enter the amount and date paid for each type of work. I'd go back to him as you said to get it completed fully.
