Hi,

Just wondering when your laid off how long after your last official work day should you wait to claim a tax refund..? I have the social welfare forms all in ,set up, and organised .Just waiting to hear back .

Finished work around two weeks now so just wondering should I apply now..? Also what form should I use..?

Thanks..

p.s Is it just this years tax I claim back..?

download form p50 from revenue website. must wait min 4 weeks before claim. get temporary refund every so often if you are due it. please note that job benefit is also taxable.

you could file a tax retutn for 08 to get a balancing statement for 08- file immediately

Thanks for th info .

What do you mean by job benefit is taxable..?

Because Jobseekers Benefit (based on your Prsi record) is taxable, you would not be refunded all the tax you have paid so far this year. Revenue will compare your income at 26 weeks, 30 weeks etc, with tax credits for 26 weeks, 30 weeks, and refund any overpayment.
I would look out any medical expenses from 2008, service charges paid in 2007, and file a 2008 tax return as advised above. You may be due a refund?

If you are receiving Jobseekers Allownace (means tested), that is not taxable.
