claim debt from private person

Hi,

1.I moved out of a shared house and paid a deposit for it. Unfortunately haven't a written proof for it. On the same day I moved out another person moved in. I didn#t damage anything and they still refuse to pay my deposit back. Is it possible to claim the payment?

2. Additional to that I purchchased for a roommate two times flight tickets and am now afraid that I won't get my money back. I have my visa bills which are proving that the tickets has been purchased for this person. Is there any way if they refuse to pay to get the money back?
 
Was there a reason you did not get payment for the flights before you booked them? Or immediately after? I would never let that sort of debt build up.
