Looking to buy a Citroen 2CV Charlston for next June. I haven't a clue about this. Can anyone offer any advice on where I should start looking?

Do they even make those anymore?.. Not if it's the one I'm thinking of.
Check autotrader online, and buy and sell.ie

Oh happy memories - had a Citroen Diane 2CV , ....
I'm afraid you didn't. You either had a a Citroen Dyane, launched in 1967 or a 2CV. The Dyane used the 2CV's little air-cooled flat-twin engine but other than that the car was a new design.

Re: Citroen 2CV Charlston

Many thanks for all your replies and I'll keep an eye on those three web sites. No I don't think they make them anymore so you are right about parts etc. The Charleston is the one with the maroon colour isn't it?

Hi Sumatra,

I drive a 2CV Charleston (1983) rebuilt and as good as new. It is my sole car and it's used everyday.

Charleston's came in Black/Maroon, Dark Grey/Light Grey and Yellow/Black versions. I have my own coulourscheme on the Charleston pattern.

I've had my 2CV for 2 years. I oredered it from a 2CV specialist in UK, who rebuilt it and added extras to my spec. Then they delivered it from Somerset to Offaly on the back of a low-loader.

There are very few 2CVs in Ireland but they remain popular amongst enthusiasts in the UK. I'm a member of the 2CVGB club (google it) and they have a section on 2CVs for sale. There is usually a good choice. If you need any further info just let me know.

Thanks to all who helped me here and those who took the time to e-mail me. You were all a great help.

Took delivery of the car Tuesday and it is currently hidden in a neighbors garage awaiting the other half's birthday on Wed. It's an 88 four door in great condition with a 604 cc engine and roll up soft top. Pretty hard to work the gears though! Glad it worked out so far because I didn't really have a plan B.

Yes, he could have had.. The first "Dyane" (Model AYA) was known as the Dyane 2CV, the second model was "Dyane D6" (AYA3 - 3CV ), then "Dyane 4" (AYA2 - back to 2CV), and finally "Dyane 6" (3CV)

No, I'm afraid we'll have to agree to differ. From 1967 onwards Citroen made and sold three (ish) small cars with the same "roots"

They were sold as different cars and were never referred to or advertised by Citroen as, for example, the "Dyane 2CV". Citroen were very clear about the markets for each car and went to great lengths to avoid confusing either its 2CV customers or the Dyane's target market (initially Renault 3 & 4 buyers).

The most obvious external styling cue differences between the 2V and Dyane were the Dyane's headlight clusters set into the front wings versus the 2CV's "headlights on stalks" sticking out from either side of the bonnet, a design that lasted until final production in 1990. http://www.citroenet.org.uk/passenger-cars/michelin/2cv/history/1990.html
