Chorus/NTL in Cork - Cable rather than dish

Thinking of signing up with this crowd for digital TV. In the town I'm in they can supply the service by cable which suits my needs. Anyone have the cable service - good or bad? Also if I subscribe for a year and then unsubscribe will I be able to receive free to air channels or does this only apply when you have a satellite dish?
 
I use UPC digital in Dublin and the service, overall, is good. The digibox unit is tempramental and the epg is pants, but I can live with it.

I'm not clear what you mean by 'free to air channels' ? With an aerial plugged into the back of the TV, you should (depending on reception) be able to tune in RTE1, RTE2, TG4 & TV3. This should be true for you today and nothing to do with UPC or SKY.
 
I have their Internet/TV package and it's quite good.
Cant get Sky in the Apt block.
Not too sure about the free to air channels like sky - my thinking would be No, as soon as you stop paying they cut all services AFAIK
