choosing interior wall paint - cheap or dear

Hi,
Is there any real difference between cheap emulsion paint , e.g. magnolia B&Q brand and crown paint? Can I expect the cheap stuff to peel off sooner? Does it take more coats to paint a wall? We are very confused as there are some big price differences between cheap B&Q/Woodies brand paint and Dulux / Crown.

Having tried cheaper paints in the past - Fleetwood seems to ring a bell - I am now well and truly cured. Dulux is my only man!

I love to paint interiors, will mask off areas to do stripes etc. in different colours/shades, but hate having to do umpteen coats. In my opinion there is far better coverage in the likes of Dulux.

Am I incorrect in assuming that B&Q or Woodies paint is simply re-branded paint from a major manufacturer?

it may be rebranded, but if it is it's probably severely watered down..at a guess..

we had the b&q stuff bought, and checked with a few people...it was returned at the weekend and we put up crown magnolia instead, we got agood deal on it but it was still a few euro dearer than the b&q stuff. Have to say though was worth it..all the upstairs has at least one coat, most have 2 and every wall is perfect...well as perfect as our painting skills allow, but can't blame the paint for that

I have to agree 100% with TreeTiger, Dulux or maybe Crown all the way. I did a lot of painting during my summer holidays while at collage, and have used the cheap stuff in the past, you don't know what you are getting. I remember once having to but on 5/6 coats of supposedly good quality trade paint (I think it was Fleetwood) which smelled like rotten eggs and had the consistency of water.

BTW AFAIK Dublin Corpo only use Dulux.

Colortrend is another quality paint that can be specified and used with confidence. If you are buying large quantities of paint you can do better deals on trade paints by going to a specialist paint-only shop. They stock other lesser known brands (used by pros) that are equally as good as Dulux etc. Cheap, poor quality paint is always a bad buy, especially when the time cost of doing any job far outweighs the cost of the materials used.

I used Dulux for many years and then tried Crown cos they had a particular colour I liked and have used Crown since. It seems thicker and lasts longer than Dulux, but Dulux have a vast colour chart to choose from

The cheap brands are not worth using particularly white for undercoat
