Chimney Closure: Most effective/efficient way.

A friend want to block her chimney as she will not be putting down fires anymore.and she is tired of the draughts, howling winds, smoke, birds, soot and noise.
What is the best way to close a chimney? Does anyone know who provides such a service in the South/West?

you could try a pillow wrapped in a black refuse sack. its not permanent, but quite effective
