Children inheriting shares.

When a child inherits shares, could the parent sell the shares and put the money in trust for them instead? Just thinking of a scenario of the company maybe not being around when they would come to 18 years.

you should be able to open a custodial account for each child where you can manage the shares on their behalf until they are adults. I put this arrangement in place with a broker for my children when their grandfather gifted them shares when they were babies.

Thank you Lsquared for that info. Does that mean then that you could sell shares for them and invest the money into that account?

Thanks ircoha. Yes I understand there would be capital gains tax to pay alright.
