IANAL I don't recall ever seeing an order for maintenance to be suspended for the summer months. Housing, utilities, food all still have to be paid.child maintenance have to be paid in the period July, Aug & Sept up to the point the dependent starts college
So as not to be a miserable git to his children. Why would the ex-husband pay for those months,
And because parents have a duty to provide for their children until they are truly independent. So as not to be a miserable git to his children.
it could be argued if the 18yr old is finished school and working, the 18yr should contribute to the house they are living in (regardless of the parental marriage situation). I know when I was growing up late teens into my early twenties I had to give up money each week from my part-time job over summer months and while i studied in college for heating & food costs as my parents struggled with bills at times. It was best life lesson i ever got, as there is no such thing as a free lunch or dinner for that matter.IANAL I don't recall ever seeing an order for maintenance to be suspended for the summer months. Nothing to do with the original question however.18yr should contribute to the house they are living
OP comes across as a genuine Scrooge unfortunately for him.So as not to be a miserable git to his children.
You mean advice that you were given or that you gave? I.e. are you the parent in question or is it someone else?my advise was to continue paying only when the dependant finishes college to stop, unless the dependant doesn't go to college and does an apprenticeship or full time work, then maintenance stops after the leaving cert
I think a bit unfair to say cheap - we don't know their financial status. You mean advice that you were given or that you gave? I.e. are you the parent in question or is it someone else?
Sounds ridiculously cheap for a parent to be looking to stop child maintenance payments for a few weeks over the summer between LC and college.
And if there's a court order governing the maintenance payments it would be foolhardy to stop paying unilaterally unless the order allows for this.
You mean your step-children?making financial sacrifices for other peoples children
Yes they are my step children legally, but they have a mother, I am not a replacement, there is a line and I do not pass it.You mean your step-children?
