Cheque made out to two names

I recieved a chque today its a refund of a deposit.
It's made out to myself and my girlfriend. We don't have a joint bank account. If I take it to the bank can I lodge it or would both of us have to be there?
Or could I get her to sign it?

A cheque was made out to me and hubby. One bank in town refused to lodge it, the other one took it without query. [I have accounts in both banks.]
 
Had that problem before myself... the person at the bank counter said to sign her name on the bank (which I did in front of him) and he loged it no problem... and this was a 15k cheque !
