Hi all im looking for some advice.

My nephew made his first holy communion last Saturday.

My sister in law left the photos into be developed this morning then got a phone call to say the photos have been ruined.

We are very upset nobody else in the family had a camera on the day so these were the only photos.

And the chemist in question were of no help in fact the girl was so rude and hostile and very dismissive. I cannot believe this has happened and then to be treated in such a rude manner.

They offered her a disposable camera!

I explained how sentimental the photos were and that a disposable camera cannot get the day back, we cannot redo the church and the rest of the special day.

Ps, sorry for the spelling!!!

Thats awful, did you go to the manager?

The only thing you can do is get the family dressed up and and retake pic and have the chemist develop them for free.

I had disaster on the communion day also. My daughter made hers last Sunday. We went for a meal and the waitress spilt a glass of red wine all over me and my new long white coat. Fuming. Still waiting for news if the cleaners got it out.

Think the only thing they legally owe you is a refund of the purchase price

Thanks for the replies, Hope they get the stain out. That's really annoying a brand new coat almost ruined, hopefully its not.
The general replies im getting is that she is only entitled to a refund and to just dress everyone up again so looks like another day out lol.

Was it a film you left in to be developed or a memory card? Can they not re-develop them?

Re: Chemist ruined communion photos

You should be able to get the film redeveloped, do you have the negatives?

Re: Chemist ruined communion photos

Hi all, thanks for the replies.

It was a disposable camera, they said when they put it through the machine it snapped and there was nothing they could do.

So they took it out of the machine. They gave me the film roll back so iv left it in with a friend and he will have a look and see if anything can be saved on it.

She has also asked patents in her sons class if anyone has any photos of him in it. And we will probably arrange a day out and get dressed up and take more photos.

Thats all that can be done.

Thanks again.

Re: Chemist ruined communion photos

Wasn't it a bit crazy to rely on a cheapo disposable for such an important event?

Good to see I'm not the only one who thinks that. I don't know anything about the OP's finances, but surely everyone has access (from relative/friend etc) to a digical camera at this stage, if only for 1 day.

When disposable cameras first came on the market, they could be recycled.
There was some way to tell if the one you had just bought had been recycled, or was ' new '.

Don't know if this is still the case, and I can't give you anymore information, as I read all that some years ago. I mention it only because it may be the reason the camera cracked.

Would you try to contact the makers of the camera, to see why it happened, and they might suggest some very sophisticated photo lab., which could try to retrieve your photos?
