Checked my LPT online, I haven't got a bill yet, and it is telling me I paid it. Rang Revenue, they can't explain it, but are coming back to me as it may be a system glitch. Don't suppose I'll get away with not paying the darn thing!

What did you check and how if you did not get a bill yet? Was it your household charge account you checked? Just curious as to why you would already have an account when you haven't even received a bill?

I got the exact same response as Horusd

The LPT online system has an option to log in if "Property ID and PIN number were not received" The systems asks for name address and PPS number, it than says you have already filed.

What URL is that? Did a search but cant seem to find it?

Thanks
S.

I tried this but didn't get the message "already filed". Sad, no escape.

I followed the lin k from revenue.ie (marked LPT) and used my RSI number and address, then got told it was filed and paid. Rang them, they can't explain it, but seem to think its a glitch. they said they'll ring back. I'll post an update soon as I hear.

Update; Glitch seems to be fixed now,

I just logged in this morning and it now doesnt say return has been filed and give me an option to file a return

Thanks for the link. I just checked it out and cheeky divils want to charge me an extra 1.49% for using a credit card!

I presume it's the Cr Card company or yourself you can thank - Revenue are hardly going to absorb the cr card charge for you because of your choice of payment method!

Why not? Most merchants scrounging my money do. And they have to actually give me something in return.

They probably just bundle the charge into the cost of the product/service so you think that there's no charge so. Explicitly stating the charges arising from the use of different payment methods is at least more transparent to the customer.

Revenue are obliged to collect the correct amount of tax.

Credit card charges are hardly their only overhead. If by "correct tax" you mean the tax after all overheads have been accounted for, then where is the accounting for, say, the manual processing costs of postal returns?

Certainly they bundle the charges in, but the point is they do not distinguish between different methods of payment. That means the customer doesn't have to go fiddling around for a different method of payment when he realises, late in the process, that his preferred method is going to cost more. And, as I pointed out above, credit card charges are not the only overhead.

Anyway, only a small point.

Which almost certainly means that the highest charges are rolled in and everybody pays them and not just those whose choice of payment method incurs them which is bad for the consumer in general. I'm all for payment charges being explicitly stated as it's more transparent and consumer friendly.
