Check on condition of Tyre

How do you check the condition of a tyre and its thread depth? I know the thread depth must be a minimum of 1.6mm but have my driving test coming up and one of the sections they can ask about is condition of tyres including thread depth so any advice much appreciated.

i belive using a euro coin is a good method. the outside ring on the coin should not be visable when you rest it in the threads.

Look for the Tread Wear Indicator (TWI) on tyre..., if your tyre's tread is worn to TWI level, change your tyre immediately.
