Cheapest directory enquiries?

The Consumers Association came out with a report today highlighting the huge costs of directory enquiries.

Apparently, the cheapest is 11888 , which I had never heard of.

There is a good guide from Money Guide Ireland

The cost depends on

  • Whether you are calling from a land line or a mobile
  • Whether you ask them to connect you or not
  • Which service provider you use

If you use the service, don't let them connect you. Write down the number.

If you can't write down the number, keep the call very short.

The eircom phone book is online and free

An example of the horrific costs with ringing directory enquiries using UPC was an approximate 6 minute call costing over €17. Person wasn't aware of the very high charges of €3.70 set-up and €2.50 per minute thereafter on 11850.

Calls to Consumer Affairs and others were a waste of time as they said their hands were tied because rates were clearly visible with provider.

Thanks for that link Michael.

Are all these tables for calls being put through?

If I ring 11811 from my o2 bill pay and ask for a number, how much do I pay?

Looks like only the third table is for call being put through. o2 bill pay to 11811 (or any) is between €1.49 (when you get through to directory enquiries) and €2.98 at one minute.

Use the phone book

Use google

I would never dream of using directory enquiries.
Stop using them the price will have to fall.

Disappointed in the attitude from comreg mind.

One recent number enquiry to 11850 cost me €3.60 - is this mad or am I just crazy ?
