I need to get my house chased but I see Aldi are selling a 1700W wall chaser this week.
I know its a dirty job but would be willing to spend some time at it. Apart from cutting out the chase on the walls, Im wondering how big do I cut the holes for the double sockets ?
ie Size of the socket plus 1 inch
Any thoughts / recommendations ?
 
go and buy a double and single socket back boxes (the metal ones, i think) and use them as templates. The sparks usually mark all the walls for positions and then it's a matter of chase away.
 
My recommendation would be to get someone with all the gear to do it, was goin to do it myself over three four evenings and lungs full of dust, got a guy in 6 hours later and €200 well spent!
 
yeah get the pros in,i think its about four too five euro or less a chase.

I purchased 1 of these chasers some time ago and they are rubbish. The problem with them is they are too heavy. When you are up a ladder trying to use one it is a pain.The best way I found is to use a small angle grinder with a goot diamond blade and run up the wall twice. Then knock out with a chissel. I chased all the sockets/lights/etc in a 3500sqft house I am finishishing at the moment that way.
 
Wouls agree with other posters get the professionals in to do the job. When I got it done some years ago they charged something like 60C/ft. It only worked out as around €300 and they had it done in 3 hours.
 
I did this on my new build only a month ago - it took me the guts of 4 days - all my walls are concrete except upstairs internals - i used a double blade angle grinder to make a channel about 1" wide and then a drill with a chisel bit to take out - it is a tough, labourious job but satisfying if you're into that sort of thing.
Its darn filthy too - you'll need a mask and goggles for sure - and some deodorant too!
 
at €5 a chase i'd also suggest getting someone todo it for u. It's an awful job to do yourself
 
When I served my time I must have spent a full year chasing walls. I can't understand why anyone would pay 300 Euro to do this job. You'd have it done in a day if not less.

That was good value, a whole house for 200euro, why dont you pass the details on the OP?

We got ours chased a few weeks ago. The leckie (two seperate guys did it) then had to put an ordinary hammered line in. Looks so rough and possibly hard on blocks in comparison. Cost us E250 - E300 for the chasing job (cash mind you). And it was done in a day.

With two young kids, two full time jobs - our days are worth more to us then the hardship of doing that job ourselves.
 
I had the house rewired recently and I had one of those aldi chasers which I gave to the sparkie - he used it and thought it was grand - only it creates a lot of dust. But whatever you do, if your house is furnished all I can say is dustsheets all the way, I regretted cutting corners with it....
