Last week, I decided to book a holiday through an online booking site. It was a non-refundable offer.
Having entered all of my details correctly—including the dates—I went to press the 'Pay' button. However, due to a glitch, my browser froze and then reloaded. Having re-entered the card details and paid, I then discovered that the dates had changed, even though I had originally entered them correctly. So I had booked the wrong dates!
Now, before anyone says it, I know it was non-refundable and I know I should have double-checked but didn't do so in the heat of the moment.
Anyway, I got through to the company after many attempts. The man on the phone gave the usual speech about not being able to do refunds. I persisted and he said he'd try and do his best for me, but would I write a favourable review for him.
They then emailed me and said it might be possible to change it but there would be a €30 charge. They later emailed again and told me to contact the hotel, which I did. The hotel were not sympathetic and asked me to contact the booking company. We were going around in circles.
Another email arrived yesterday from the booking company saying they couldn't do anything for me. Now, I would understand it if I was cancelling the booking but I'm not. I just want to change the dates and I know the hotel still has rooms available for those dates in March.
A friend of mine suggested that I apply for a chargeback from the bank. Would I have any chance there?
