Hello,

Supposing I was offered an apartment from the most recent affordable housing draw by DCC.

Since I applied my circumstances have changed and I now wish to buy the apartment with my partner instead of on my own.

Is this possible or if you are drawn out of the lottery as a single applicant must you buy as a single applicant?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Robert

I'd contact the council re this one.... best to get 100% right information. I do know however if you buy as a single applicant and you then want your partner to go on it, this wouldnt be possible then. Reason being is you go the property on your money and finance and anyone else is unable to benifit from this due to tax reasons. Even If you bought them out its the same thing., to have them on the deeds woudl not be possible if you were not married, well it could be but you woudl only be aloud to put them on the deeds up to a certain percentage, you can only give a gift to someone once in a life time of up to a certain amount before they have to pay tax on it.

Hi,
Interesting situation. You should talk to the council.
I dont think things are set in stone with them.
I've found they really will try to help you if its within their power.

Thanks for the advice.

DCC seem to think it's possible to change from joint to single applicant before buying without difficulties, so hopefully we will be able to do this.

hi Blobert,
Get EVERYTHING in writing from DCC...in my experience the information dished out over the phone differs depending on who you talk to!!!
