Does anybody know the rules regarding credit unions and living in the area? If i live in galway, can i open an account in a cu in say, cork or do i have to live in cork?

CUs normally require that you have some "common bond" with them before you are allowed join - e.g. you live in the neighbourhood or are in an employment served by the CU in question. Normally people will only have a choice of one or two (e.g. a neighbourhood and/or employment) CUs to choose from. Other than that you can't generally choose an arbitrary CU to join. Just curious as to why this is an issue? Perhaps based on dividends/interest paid in the past by certain CUs?
